This is such an iconic establishment, it always remains a favourite! Trying to decide where to dine on a Sat night with some friends, we headed into the Stag on a recommendation by another friend. The table ordered all sorts of dishes off the menu and no one was disappointed! We particularly like the corn cobs, pork belly and popcorn chicken, although I would have to say I don’t think naming this popcorn chicken is quite correct, it’s actually more like Karaage chicken and it’s pretty close to it, having just come back from Japan and eating loads of it!! Corn was smothered in chipotle sauce and parmesan and was really delicious. Pork belly was nice, although the serve was a little on the small side for the price. This is not a cheap place to dine by any means and I do think the plates could be a little larger considering this is still a pub and not fine dining. Other foodie mates had squid, schnitties etc, all were pretty happy, but all thought a little pricey. They do have some good specials during the week, so I would probably take advantage of that on my next visit! Service was really friendly and uber helpful. Thanks guys!!

Went for a business dinner. Food was ok but very average for the price. Had the steak, was not cooked rare as I asked for. Although my steak was rather large it was chewy. The others who had ordered the $40 t-bone were very disappointed with the size and taste. Entrees were tiny as we're the sides. Paying $12 for a three stalks of broccolini and $7 for a few spoonfuls of mashed potato was a but steep in my opinion. The cheese platter for $24 had to be the biggest rort of the night. I am getting a little bit over these pubs making out to be high-end, over charging for it and then serving sub-par small portions!

So pleasantly surprised with the revamped Stag! The first obvious thing that MUST be mentioned is the hot chips. I'm talking some of THE best you'll come across (shoutout to The Lion for also doing unreal chippies). SO crispy. Anywho so I can't critique a place on hot chips alone (though wouldn't that be a dream), I had the -Mixed Grain Salad- with haloumi. It was a mix of quinoa and wild rice, red onion, cucumber with a lemony dressing and charred, lovely smokey flavoured and beautifully seasoned broccolini. Absolutely divine. Huge piece of haloumi and some watercress, all went really well. Sister had the -Caesar Salad- generous serving size of cos with all the usual culprits- croutons, marinated chook, bacon, white anchovies and soft boiled egg. A lovely take on a classic. Brother had the -Schnitzel Special- great value at $15 for a thick chicken schnitty encased in crispy coating. Lots of Napoletana and cheese he couldn't have been happier, I'd love to try some more technical dishes here (main meals, some of the tapas) and will of course be back for those CHIPS. Y u m. Thank you Stag

Went in for a business lunch. First time since the revamp. I enjoy lots of small dishes, but I don't think they were really executed very well. Quite a few cold components might work in summer, but in the end I wished I had something hot on a plate instead of cold on a board. Slightly better range of beers in the bar, but not by much.

Went there on a Friday night with 3 people to try the new restaurant, quite busy. Food was nice but the service was soo bad. Ordered a $120 bottle of wine and took staff 15 minutes to pour it- ended up having to go to the bar and ask to pour it, which took another 5 minutes. Waiter was quite rude as well. Want be going back as the service was so slow and bad customer service in general.
