Visited for quick sit down lunch and was not disappointed - simple decor (no table cloths here), friendly service, straight forward varied menu covering most Australian preferred Chinese dishes and at a very reasonable price for a Carlton premises. Allergy requirements were not tested.Food delivered promptly and drinks (in bottles only - no glasses here). I had a spring roll and roast pork bun entree - both basic choices and both were reasonable/good - spring roll a bit too greasy. Main was basic choice also - steak special fried rice. It was freshly prepared - you can see the cooking behind the counter. It was tasty - did not need additives such as soy sauce or salt and pepper that are on tables. The food seemed a tad dry though fresh enough ingredients. Overall a good quick Chinese meal at a very reasonable price.

So many years, such great food but to look at Fu Lu and judge on appearances would be a huge mistake. It looks average, dodgy even. But for MSG free, amazing food and fried rice in particular you'll be hard pressed to find better. Lovely husband & wife run business which continually delivers. I even know an up market restauranteur who swears by this place.Go there & support it, it's a win win.

I've been going to this place for almost 20 years and not once has it disappointed me. If you want real fresh Chinese food with the right taste then this is the place to go. I've tried almost everything on their menu and it was all perfect.

I went here on Saturday for the first time in a couple of years... it brought back so many fond memories... I can still remember my first visit in 1987. Took a friend who was AMAZED at how good this humble little cafe is.Mrs Lee used to own and run the cafe. She sold it to the last Chef she hired who has kept the same VERY high standard of Chinese food. All food is cooked fresh in front of you and is, with out question, the best Chinese food I've eaten anywhere in Australia and parts of Europe and USA.I LOVE this place and can't recommend it highly enough. Just roll the dice, I guarantee you will not be disappointed.

Fu Lu is our favourite Chinese restaurant. It is delicious, fresh, quick and super cheap! It's not a huge traditional restaurant setting but more like a takeaway shop/café with only a few tables. We had a group of 7 there last week and we ordered 5 mains, 2 fried rice, 2 steamed rice, 3 entrées and 7 cans of drink and the bill was just over $100! Incredible value! We love it!

Never judge a book by its cover; this very plain & old looking Chinese restaurant is one of the best when it come to great tasting, fresh, & clean food. They are popular with locals for as reflected by the many takeaway customers who keep coming every night, but I would eat it fresh while it's hot. This very small venue 12x seats & 5x counter stools where you can watch your food cook. Crispy fried chicken & garlic beef has to be the best combo.

The humble Chinese take away seems to be a dying breed, but Fu Lu is keeping it old school on Rathdowne Street.
