We visited for dinner on a Monday. The service was efficient and the waiter suggested some dishes for us to try. This was our first time trying Hunanese dishes. There is plenty of fresh chillies used in contrast to Sichuan cooking which normally used dried chillies in their cooking. The dishes were tasty only if you can handle the heat! We enjoyed the meal. The restaurant is not easy to see fr Newcastle St as it's part of the Citylights serviced hotel. The restaurant is airy and spacious.

If you want to experience Chinese food that is as far from suburban Cantonese as you can get, try Chilli Panda for its Hunanese cuisine.Bear in mind that the chilli ratings on the menu may be somewhat understated for non-regular chilli eaters, but the food will grow on you.My personal favourite is the Spicy Cumin Beef, which can be balanced nicely with the cold Cucumber, Garlic and Coriander. There are also plenty of vegetable dishes, if that takes your fancy.

Chilli.. that's exactly what to expect and you should expect a lot of it. The meal was lovely, however if you can't tolerate chilli, this probably isn't the cuisine for you.

Thought it was a cute name for a neat modern restaurant. Ordered 3 dishes and they had 1 chilli on it but didn't think much of it. When the first cold dish of beef came it was covered in chilli seeds and oil. I thought oh oh this will be trouble and it was! Fml. I'm not a chilli eater so it was the beginning of a uncomfortable dinner experience.Next the pork came and it too was covered in chilli flakes and seeds. Ate a few pieces and my mouth went numb. And the 3rd dish was yet to come. The chicken with bone came. It too was in a soup of chilli. Damn. Was going to tap out but kept eating as I was hungry. Hiit classes make u hungry. 10 mins later there were sweat drops dripping from the top of my head. If there was no chilli the dishes would have tasted amazing. But heck you go to Green n Cock for a good coffee right? How was I supposed to know u get chilli with every dish at Chilli Panda. Still good but won't hv again. If you like chilli do try this. If not you have been warned.

The reception wasn't particularly welcoming and for some reason (probably our fault) we found it hard to find - however - I loved the food. It is full of flavoursome chilli and I love chilli. The food is cooked beautifully and every dish we had was exciting and memorable. I look forward to going back.

Where looking for some authentic, quality Chinese food for our Friday ‘lunch date’ and came across the TripAdvisor, well-reviewed Chilli Panda (CP).CP has a very modest and hard to see frontage near the corner of Newcastle and Beaufort Street in North Bridge. Beyond the front door there is a cavernous, ‘factory’ style restaurant with buffed cement floors, predominantly bench style seating, exposed air-conditioning ducts and an expansive, modern kitchen. Seating is not sympathetic to ‘twichery’ backs. The cuisine is ‘Hunan’ style. Hunan is a western province in China and is known for its hot spicy flavour, fresh aroma and deep colour. Common cooking techniques include stewing, frying, pot-roasting, and braising. If you don’t like chilli and very robust flavours then CP is not for you – however we really enjoyed the experience. Our dishes were Hot and Spicy Prawn in Claypot; Griddle Cooked Chicken; and Fried Rice Soy Sauce. Dishes were generous in quantity and presented attractively in metal bowls, hovering over candle light stands – this kept everything nice and warm for the duration of the meal – see picture attached. The Chicken was very tender, tasty and hot! The chicken meat is served on-the-bone, adding greatly to the flavour but maybe a little challenging for those not liking to get their hands sticky. This was Jude’s favourite dish. The Prawns stepped-up further in flavour and intensity – I encourage you to leave the prawn shell attached as this adds to the wonderful flavour and crunchy texture. The Fried Rice Soy Sauce is worth mentioning as more than just a bland accompanying rice dish. This dark coloured dish was flavourful with just the right balance of salt.We miss, the good, authentic and accessible Chinese restaurants of past decades BUT in the Chilli Panda we have found a new establishment well worth a return visit with a group of maybe six people – bench style.By the way, CP is not licenced and parking might be an issue during peak dining times.

Chilli Panda is definitely an appropriate name! If you're not a fan of chilli give this a miss. I however, love chilli! Fantastic tasting food. Great interior. Good service and not long to wait for the food. The only downsides were chicken dishes was meat on the bone, menu didn't explain this so one friend missed out on this dish. And we had to ask three times for the bill. Overall though a really good meal at a fair price.

Read some reviews about chilli panda so I thought I'd give it a try. Very bright and clean space with large tables, some communal. Ordered spicy beef and spicy cabbage with a serve of rice. Very filling, fresh and delicious flavours but be warned there is plenty of chilli there! Would like to see it licensed though
