You have to arrive here early to secure a table but that's no guarantee of value for money - nice decor, quite clean but food was so-so and quite expensive - for these prices one would expect better, service very ordinary, dirty plates not removed after each course, had to ask continuously for the tea and water glasses to be refilled and of course a surcharge for using a credit card; we won't go back.

If it makes it easier, 257 Home Kitchen is on 257 Rowe st,Eastwood Follow where the lines to get in is usually a good indicator of a good restaurant but that thinking failed me once in Burwood This time I'm not sure ???? what to think of this theory At least we didn't feel cramp in here and the waiter keep coming to fill up our water glasses The wait for the food was spread out. The drunken chicken came out first, the others in my group said this is organic chicken as it's a little tough,it had bones with it. I felt like it has a hassle eating this tough chicken and trying to eat the little bits of meat stuck to the bone and bones just made me lose enjoyment from this dish. It's a shame because the stronger flavour (than other places) is a nice change and I wouldn't get this again The lamb cumin, though there was a chilli ???? picture on the menu wasn't that spicy which is a good thing. Cumin and lamb go together and this dish shows why! The blend of flavours with the onion is a must try dish though a little oily I was expecting more from the boiled dumpling,it was just a bit too plain for me. The pan fried dumplings were a little better The stir fried bean sprouts with mushrooms was nice though not much mushrooms in the dish Prices are more than other similar restaurants We did look around and people were ordering the fish and hotpot, maybe we should of chosen those dishes A bit of hit and miss here

I'm not sure what to do here so will give a neutral review. The good: they have the best spicy pork and bamboo at $20, better than other local sichuan restaurants. BUT!!! last night i paid $40 for tofu and crab... i don't know what to say ... it was only silken tofu with seafood sauce... where was the crab??? $40... and a small container - i was blown away and just felt like i was part of a horrible con job, ruined my night. All night family was laughing at me for losing money on a $4 packet of tofu.... there might have been a funny side to it but i just wanted to go to the shop and flip some tables!!! Also i got a container of vegetables, it was half full - tiny tiny portion and that also cost $18 something. I have been to every place in eastwood and every shops vegetable dishes were far cheaper and double the size. The people here just want to make money, some of the food is good BUT management are money hungry beyond reason. BE CAREFUL if you're willing to spend $60 on half a box of vegetables and a small box of tofu in seafood sauce for $60 then this is the place to come!!! If you can't tell, i'm still feeling stung in a horrible way from my last experience here, so after reliving this experience i'm giving them a 1. Please ignore this shop until they make their servings and prices reasonable.

Booked a table for 17 people - restaurant said it was fine and that they will provide me two tables as they cant fit 17 people on one table. Reconfirmed the number of people on the day of the booking. When we went to the restaurant, i told them the booking details and was simply ignored by the staff. No one notified me that I had to wait for the table to be cleared (as there were people finishing up their food). Afterwards, they tried to put 17 chairs to one table (which completely did not fit). I advised them that I was told I would be provided 2 tables. They accused me of changing my reservation from 11 to 17 people when this was not true. And that the number of bookings were impossible. They then provided two separate tables in the end but the tables were far from each other. other than that, food was good but service was appalling. would not recommend for large groups (8+ people). probably wont be coming back

Don't be fooled by the reviews from non-Chinese people, this place is second to none for their 100% authentic shanghainess cuisine. The soup we had taste exact as how I'd expect it to taste had we ordered it in Shanghai. The sweat and sour fried fish (not its proper English name) was devoured within 10 mins. The pork bun had a thin crust and a juicy filling. Hardly had time to take photos before the food disappeared. Next time I will definitely visit with a larger group so we can order more dishes.

For any restaurant, four elements are critical- Ambience Service Hygiene and of course the quality of food.

Ambience - 4 out of 5
Loved the feel of the place - it was busy however most of the people dining were non Indians. Very cosy dim lighting with temperature maintained at a level suitable enough to bring out the flavour of wine.
Ambience suitable for casual or a bit of formal dining as well.

Service - 5 out of 5
From the time we made the booking to the time we left, exceptional service with a responsive conversation and smile from manager waitresses etc. this was as good as it gets in a family restaurant unless you are fine dining.

Hygiene - 4.5 out of 5
All good in this department as well. Everything seemed clean and organised ... couldn't fault with a naked eye

Food - 2.5 out of 5
WOW ... what a downer. That probably explains why there were not many Indians there. Presentation of the food is all ok but the quality of the food is only suitable for people who don't understand curries.

Nothing was over a 3 including Entrees or Mains when u compare them to some of the Indian restaurants elsewhere these days. Curries had absolutely no flavour and they were watery. We ordered a Panner Kulcha and my message to the chef of this place would be to go and try a panner kulcha at a very casual restaurant Taj sweets in Harris park and he would know what it should be like.

We appreciate the lovely service guys that you extended us however your kitchen failed you. Sorry we would not return but good luck. I really hope that you guys can see where you lacked and some improvements can be made because everything else apart from food was top notch.
